Thank you for your questions.

1- "PAL modes" are the MMR registers to set for properly handle the bank switchings at the different addresses.
Sometime known to be C0, C1, C2, C3 ... And must be all decoded properly to be 100% Amstrad PAL (6128 IC) compatible.
2- No. You can use the D-ROM for this usage. Programming is fast and the content stay resident for many years.
If you require a board doing ROM (512K) and RAM (512K), I should provide to you the X-MEM for 29.90€.
3- 4.90€ for the MX4 to Edge or MX4 to Centronics ribbon cable

Sure, the Z-MEM was done to allow M4 users to have an expansion RAM.
Now, you require a dual ribbon cable connector or a MotherX4 board to connect them together.
(curently, I can't produce the MotherX4... It will be back in January)

Are you suggesting that the X-MEM (I'm a proud owner of one of these boards) is not totally compatible with the M4? Or you say that because the Z-MEM is just RAM and not both, RAM and ROM?

I just said that Z-MEM is a RAM only expansion.
X-MEM does ROM and RAM, but M4 users should not require it as the M4 handle ROM too.
